Ride For Hope

Since its inception, Ride for Hope Bahamas has been a tremendous support to the Cancer Society of the Bahamas. Together we have been able to put our collaborative efforts together in helping to save lives as it relates to cancer.

The Cancer Society complements the work of Ride for Hope by providing support for all cancer patients. Family Island patients stay in the Cancer Caring Centre FREE of charge. An office is situated in the Society headquarters occupied by a full-time Education Officer all of which has been made possible by the overwhelming support of Ride for Hope Bahamas.

Additional programs solely funded by the Ride for Hope Bahamas are:

  • Family Island Mammogram Screening Campaign (FIMS)
  • Medical Assistance Fund

In addition to the financial assistance provided to the Cancer Society for the benefit of its Cancer Caring Center, the Ride for Hope also funded the completion of the Cancer Society's HQ and clinic in Palmetto Point, Eleuthera. From this facility the Cancer Society reaches out to all communities on Eleuthera, Spanish Wells, and Harbour Island, holding clinics and informational sessions on cancer, at risk women, early detection opportunities, and much more.

A gift from the Ride for Hope to the Cancer Society of The Bahamas was used to pay off the Cancer Society's mortgage, incurred during the construction of the highly-praised Cancer Caring Center. The Cancer Caring Center provides a home-like environment with professional care to cancer patients from the Family Islands who have come to New Providence for their treatment. The extraordinary facility, available to ordinary citizens, is described as “a place where pain management is understood and medical attention provided in a setting of beauty, tranquility and personal freedom, a place where family members can visit and linger.”
