THRIFT SHOP
The Thrift Shop came about in 1999 when Director Norma Rahming-Gaitor began raising money for the Cancer Society by having a patio sale at her home. This birthed the idea of having a shop to offer secondhand articles for sale in order to raise funds for the Cancer Caring Centre.
Because the Society didn’t have a headquarters as yet, the Thrift Shop was located on Hospital Lane and Cambridge Street; a building that was generously donated rent free.
In 2001, after the Cancer Society officially open its Headquarters located East Terrace, Centreville, the Thrift Shop relocated to the rear of the new headquarters.
Today, the ‘New’ Thrift Shop offers a variety of new and gently used merchandise such as; shoes, clothing for the entire family, handbags, jewelry, household items, books, furniture, etc. All items are donated by the community; you too can support and make a difference. Call us today if you wish to make a donation.
Every purchase goes towards operating the Cancer Caring Centre where patients from the Family Islands have free accommodations whilst undergoing various medical treatments.
